n 2018, Walter and Maria Schroeder established the Schroeder Foundation Scholarships at the University of Manitoba, a transformative initiative designed to support students from three high schools: St. John’s High School, Sisler High School, and their alma mater, Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute. The program, both prestigious and unique, offers students full tuition, renewable for up to four years, with a total scholarship value of $30,000. New recipients attend a five-week summer school program designed to ease their transition to university life, with a $5,000 stipend provided to replace the income they would have typically earned during the summer months, allowing them to focus fully on their academic preparation without the financial strain. For students in need of residence accommodations, the program covers these costs as well. In addition, each Schroeder Scholar receives personalized tutoring and mentorship from an assigned educator to ensure ongoing support throughout their academic journey.
Since its inception, the Schroeder Foundation has committed $3.3 million to the University of Manitoba. The number of students selected each year has expanded from 10 to 23, and this year, a total of 83 students, including past graduates, new recipients, and renewing scholars, have benefited from the Schroeder Scholarship.
